BEDFORD, PEAKS OF OTTER AND THE BLUERIDGE PARKWAY

My husband will be working and living in Roanoke for the next six months. Roanke is three hours from home one way. When he can he comes home for the weekend. This weekend he decided we would get away and stay at his pad in Roanoke. Our plans for the weekend? D Day Memorial in Bedford , Peaks of Otter, and Blueridge Parkway. With our lunch packed we made our way to Bedford. Our first stop Bedford Visitor Center. The center is located down the hill from the D Day Memorial. After signing the visitor log, chatting with the friendly staff, touring the visitor center, we were informed that the Memorial is closed. What, closed i said! Due to the economy cutbacks had to be made.  The Memorial will reopen sometime in April.  We got in the car and headed for Peaks of Otter. I ate my sandwich on the way. The local shops, orchards and wineries in Bedford are closed on Sunday. The drive was lovely. We reached the Peaks of Otter, drove up the mountain and down. The views awesome! Met a few cars on our drive, otherwise it was just us on the road. We took the Parkway  to Roanoke about a twenty eight minute drive if you do not stop at the overlooks. It took us over an hour to get back to Roanoke, we could not resist the overlooks!  The pictures were taken from the car, as it was windy and freezing in the mountains.

  1. It's very beautiful. I would like to try the B&B
sometime. We stayed at the Peaks of Otter lodge, was very scenic. Took tour to mountain top with beautiful cobbletone cabin at the top.
You have some very nice pictures of wildlife, too.
I want to see more of Bedford.
Virginia has some beautiful scenery this time of year.
